Solo, C Java (ANTARA News) - The Bengawan Solo River overflowed and inundated several villages located along the banks of the river.

Some 301 families comprising 1,313 people were affected by the flooding, Sangkrah Village Head Singgih Bagjono stated here, Friday.

Most of the flood victims have been evacuated to emergency tents set up by military forces.

Surakarta Mayor Achmad Purnomo had visited the flood-hit areas and had distributed relief aid.

Sewu in Jebres Sub-district and Ngringo in Jaten Sub-district are among the flood-affected villages.

With the rainy season reaching its peak in February, several provinces are currently bearing the brunt of floods and landslides.

Two people went missing after flash floods hit Segulung and Tileng villages, Dagangan Sub-district, Madiun District, East Java Province, on Thursday evening.

The two residents of Segulung village were swept away by rushing torrents when a bridge collapsed after being struck by flash floods, Amanto, a local officer, stated here on Friday.

The floods, triggered by incessant torrential rains, also destroyed several houses in the two villages.

A joint search and rescue team comprising personnel of the military, police, and the local disaster mitigation office (BPBD), have begun search operations for the missing women named Dinem and Dinah.

"Flash floods arising from the slopes of Mount Wilis have affected several villages in Dagangan Sub-district," noted Sergeant Major Suyono.

Kare, Gemarang, and Wungu are the other sub-districts in Madiun that are susceptible to flooding.(*)
