Jakarta (Antara News) - Flash flood inundated six neighborhood units in Kampung Pulo, Jatinagara sub-district, East Jakarta, at height of up to 150 cm.

"A number of houses are flooded, but there are no evacuees," Head of the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) Denny Wahyu said here, Sunday.

The water level of Ciliwung River started to rise at 11 pm local time and inundated some houses in Kampung Pulo.

The flash flood was triggered by incessant heavy rains in Bogor and Puncak area since Saturday afternoon, causing the water level in Bendung Katulampa sluice gate to increase to 150 cm, or at the third alert status.

Denny Wahyu said his office had earlier warned the Kampung Pulo residents about flash flood that most likely would come from Bogor within eight to nine hours.

Thanks to the early warning, the local inhabitants had been able to make preparations for saving their properties.

The heavy rains in Bogor also surged the water level in the Manggarai sluice gate at 770 cm since 7 am local time on Sunday, and the Karet Sluice gate at 460 cm.

In November 2014, parts of the capital city had been flooded, and some 17,837 inhabitants of East Jakarta and South Jakarta had been displaced due to the flooding.

Kampung Pulo, which is densely populated area located along Ciliwung Rivers bank in East Jakarta, was the worst hit by flood waters that reached a height of up to four meters on early Nov. 20, 2014.

Floods forced 17,569 residents of Kampung Pulo, Bidara China, and Cawang in East Jakarta to seek temporary shelters, Chandra Gunawan of the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) said late last year.

Currently, a number of provinces are experiencing flooding and landslides since the rainy season peaks in February and March. ***4***
