The Financial Transaction Analysis and Reporting Center (PPATK) and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should be involved in the selection of first echelon officials of the ministry, lawmaker of the Commission XI of the parliament Ecky Awal Muharram said.
"PPATK needs to be involved to probe and trace the financial transactions and assets of the candidates," Ecky said here on Monday.
The finance ministry is expected to look for a replacement for Customs and Excises Director General Agung Kuswandono, who will have new post at the office of the maritime coordinating minister.
He said a customs and excise director general needs to have good leadership and high integrity to oversee works at the customs and excise office.
The involvement of the two agencies would prevent possible favoritism in the selection of officials at strategic positions, he said.
Good leadership and high integrity would better guarantee good performance of the customs and excise directorate in meeting sits targets, he said.
Earlier, the Director of Centre For Budget Analysis (CBA) Uchok Sky Khadafi said the auction held for the post of customs and excise director general must be transparent and the finance ministry must not be involved in the selection committee.
"The finance ministry must not take part in the selection to ward off doubt that process of selection is not more than formality to hide favoritism," Uchok said.
He said he had heard of unhealthy competition for the post to be left vacant by Agung Kuswandono.
"Therefore, PPATK and KPK should be involved to verify the assets of the candidate as well as the selection team if necessary," he said.(*)
