Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jordanian King Abdullah II expressed his intention to attend the 60th commemoration of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) and the 10th anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) in Jakarta and Bandung, on April 22-24.

King Abdullah II has communicated his wish to the special envoy of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Hussainia Palace in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday (March 18).

However, the attendance of King Abdullah II awaits the official confirmation from the Kingdom of Jordan Protocol.

Jokowi had earlier sent former foreign affairs minister Alwi Shihab as his special envoy to deliver the AAC invitation to the state leaders of Middle Eastern countries.

King Abdullah II of Jordan and Shihab discussed various important issues of common concern, including the understanding of the development of moderate Islam among muslims.

After Jordan, Shihab will visit Egypt to deliver Jokowi's invitation to President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi on March 19-22.

Indonesian government will host the commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the AAC themed, Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity.

The commemoration will be held in Bandung, on April 24, 2015. Some 109 Asian and African countries along with 16 observer countries and 25 international organizations will be invited.

The AAC was first organized in Bandung, West Java, on April 18-24, 1955, at the initiative of Indonesia, Myanmar (Burma), Ceylon (Sri Lanka), India, and Pakistan.

It was viewed as a symbol of freedom from colonialism, besides being a symbol of the resurgence of Asian and African nations.

Some 29 countries representing more than half of the world's population had sent their delegates to the conference.

On the 60th year of commemoration of the AAC, Indonesia will hold various events starting with a senior official meeting in Jakarta, on April 19, ministerial meeting on April 20, Asia-Africa Business Summit on April 21, and Asian-African Leaders Summit on April 22-23.

The final event will be organized in Bandung, on April 24, which will bring together leaders from the Asian and African continents on a common platform to trace the conference's 60 years of history.
