Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA News) - Three Indonesian migrant workers and a Bangladeshi citizen died after an elevator they boarded fell from the 13th floor of an under-construction apartment in Putrajaya area, on Monday, stated a police officer.

Chief of Putrajaya Polices Criminal Investigation Unit Deputy Superintendent Zaihairul Idrus was quoted by the local media as saying on Tuesday that the Indonesian workers died at the accident site following serious head and body injuries.

"The Bangladeshi worker was in a critical condition and was rushed to the Putrajaya Hospital, but he died at the hospital at 3 p.m. local time," he noted.

The three ill-fated Indonesians were working on the apartments ceiling while their Bangladeshi colleague was the elevator operator when the accident took place, the police officer revealed.

The police investigation into the incident revealed that the cause of the accident was related to the failure of the elevators braking system, he said, adding that there were four people and some sacks of cement inside the ill-fated freight elevator.

The total weight of the cement and the people inside the elevator was just 1.2 thousand kilograms or below its total capacity of two thousand kilograms, he noted.

The embassies of Indonesia and Bangladesh have been notified about this accident, he added.
