Purworejo, C Java, (ANTARA News) - Floods and landslides hit some villages in Pituruh sub-district, Purworejo District, Central Java, on Saturday evening, killing a villager and demaging three houses.

Villages that have been affected by the natural disasters are Pamriyan, Wonosido, Sawangan and Purbayan, Head of the Purworejo Disaster Mitigation Office Budi Harjono said here, Sunday.

"The landslides and floods were triggered by heavy rains in the areas," he said.

In Wonosido, a villager was struck by a landslide while he was taking a shelter near a hill, as it was raining.

A landslide damaged three houses located near a hill in Purbayan village.

Incessant heavy rains triggered floods in a number of villages in Pituruh sub-district.

The local disaster mitigation office with the assistance of military and police personnel as well as local volunteers, cleared the roads and houses that had been covered by mud after the landslides and floods.

In the meantime, a landslide destroyed six houses and buried 10 people in Cireungas sub-district, Sukabumi District, West Java Province, on Saturday at around 11 pm local time.

Two bodies were found, and eight others were still buried under the debris, Cireungas sub-district Head Bandan said.
