Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Thousands of workers from various organizations congregated at the Hotel Indonesia Circle, Central Jakarta, for a long march to the State Palace to mark the May Day celebration on Friday.

The workers are from the Congress of Indonesian Labor Union Alliance (KASBI), the Indonesian Labor Union Confederation (KSPI), the Independent Journalist Alliance (AJI), and the Indonesian Prosperous Labor Union Confederation (KSBSI), among others.

They carried banners bearing slogans such as no to privatization of state-owned companies, no to imperialism, no to cheap labor, no to price hikes, and demanding improvement in the publics welfare, among others.

May Day or Labor Day, which falls on May 1, was first observed in Indonesia as a public holiday in 2014.
