Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has opined that former Jakarta governor Sutiyoso has the required experience to become the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief, according to Presidential Communication Team member Teten Masduki.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Masduki said the president has opined that Sutiyoso, as the BIN chief, will be able to detect and prevent threats to the nation as he has the requisite experience in the field of military and civil administration.

He explained that Sutiyosos experience in the military and as the former governor of Jakarta will enable him to ably conduct his tasks to secure and prevent the nation from outside threats.

"In accordance with the mandate of Law No.17/2011 on State Intelligence, President Jokowi has sent a letter seeking DPR to consider the nomination of Lt. Gen. (ret) Sutiyoso to replace Lt. Gen. (ret) Marciano Norman as the head of BIN," he revealed.

Masduki remarked that according to the presidents record, Sutiyosos experience in military, intelligence, and civil administration will vastly help him in his new role as head of BIN, especially in the early detection of threats to national security and stability.
