The most important thing that should be discussed is the readiness of the three country."Kupang (ANTARA News) - The Kupang-Darwin- Dili flight route which was closed in the 1990s will be reopened to boost business and trade under a trilateral cooperation agreement among Indonesia, Timor Leste and Australia.
"The plan to reopen the flight route connecting the three countries is one of the recommendations from the Charles Darwin University (CDU) Independent Team of Trilateral Assessment," Chairperson of the Indonesian delegation Bobby C Siagian said here Thursday.
The CDU recommended the governments of Indonesia, Timor Leste and Australia to coordinate the mobility of businesses and people in the region by providing direct flights connecting the cities of Kupang, Dili and Darwin.
According to Siagian, the Indonesian government supports the plan to open Kupang-Darwin, and Kupang-Dili-Darwin flight routes.
"The most important thing that should be discussed is the readiness of the three countries air carriers," he said.
So far, the plan to open the Kupang - Darwin flight route has received the green light from the Indonesian government.
Currently, the East Nusa Tenggara administration is reviewing the Kupang-Dili flight route, along with the reopening of Jakarta-Denpasar-Dili flight route.
The flight route will provide alternative mode of transportation for people who have so far traveled from Timor Leste to Kupang by land which takes longer time.
"This means that it will no longer take seven to eight hours but only about 45 minutes for the people of Timor Leste to go to Kupang," Siagian added.
