If the performance could be maintained until the end of the year the inflation target of 5 percent set for the whole year would be reached.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for Economy Sofyan Djalil said the countrys inflation was still under control in the first half of the year.

"The inflation was well under control during the Ramadhan (Islamic fasting month) in July though rising but was still good. This indicated that the inflation team in the region has performed effectively," he said here on Monday.

Sofyan said the government has succeeded in keeping price stability in June and July.

He said if the performance could be maintained until the end of the year the inflation target of 5 percent set for the whole year would be reached.

"I think we have done good job this year in keeping the inflation within the target figure," he said.

Earlier, head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Suryamin said the countrys inflation in July was 0.93 percent mainly caused by an increase in transport costs.

"Transport costs rose mainly air transport and inter city bus transport cost before and after Idul Fitri," Suryamin said.

Food prices also contributed considerably to the relatively high inflation in July as the prices have increased before and during Idul Fitri festivities.

Inflation in July 2015, was unchanged from the same month last year bringing the total inflation to 1.9 percent in the first seven months of the year.

Year-on-year the inflation in July was 7.26 percent.(*)
