Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Economic and political observer from Labor Institute Indonesia, Andy William Sinaga, said the cabinet reshuffle of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gives new hope in the process of industrialization and rupiah stabilization.

President Jokowi announced reshuffling of his cabinet ministers on Wednesday replacing six ministers including three of four senior ministers.

"The new ministers are expected to improve the performance of the cabinet," Andy said.

Andy said the new cabinet should be able to create new jobs as many workers have lost their jobs.

A cut in interest rate and tax holiday especially for labor intensive industries are necessary to boost investment, he said.

"Rizal Ramli and Darmin Nasution are expected to lead coordination in the program to accelerate and shore up the flagging economy," he said.

Rizal Ramli is the new coordinating minister for maritime affairs and Darmin Nasution is the coordinating minister for economy. Rizal Ramli replaced Indroyono Susilo.

He said President Jokowi saw that there was certain group seeking to destabilize his government, therefore he needed a strong figure for coordinating minister for security, law and political affairs.

The new coordinating minister for law, security and political affairs is retired army Lt.Gen. Luhut Panjaitan, a former commander of the army crack troop. He replaced Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno.

The reshuffle has been expected after poor performance especially in economy.

The new coordinating minister for economy Darmin Naution replaced Sofyan Djalil who was given a new job as minister for national development planning to replace Andrinof Chaniago.

The post of trade minister was given to Thomas Lembong replacing Rahmat Gobel.

Another replacement is in the post of cabinet secretary which was given to Pramono Anung replacing Andi Widjajanto.
