Parigi, C Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The upcoming international maritime event, Sail Tomini 2015, is safe from terrorist acts, according to Spokesman for the Central Sulawesi Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Novia Jaya.

"Visitors and participants of Sail Tomini need not be afraid of any acts of terrorism. We already anticipated them and will continue to conduct all out security operations in all parts of Central Sulawesi," Jaya said in the Parigi Moutong district town of Parigi on Wednesday.

Earlier, terrorists used to operate out of Parigi Moutong district, and some of them were shot dead in the regions forests. Taking this into account, he affirmed that security measures continue to be intensified there.

Parigi Moutong district will host the main event of Sail Tomini on September 19 at Kayubura Beach, which is some 75 kilometers west of Palu, the center of the Central Sulawesi administration.

This event will be attended by President Joko Widodo, First Lady Iriana, cabinet ministers, and numerous ambassadors and representatives of friendly countries.

At least 10,000 domestic and foreign visitors are expected to flock to Parigi Moutong district during the Sail Tomini event. The Central Sulawesi Police spokesman reiterated that they do not have to be worried about any terrorist acts.

Jaya further noted that terrorism was one of the potential security threats to the international maritime event, but he assured the public that it had been dealt with very well.

"The issue of terrorism has been overcome. The National Police Headquarters and the Central Sulawesi Police have been carrying out the Camar Maleo security operation since early 2015 to hunt down armed civilian groups," he stated.

On April 23, during a shootout in Sakina Jaya Mountain in Parigi Moutong, which was part of the Camar Maleo security operation, security personnel shot dead Sabar Subagyo alias Daeng Koro, the terrorist leader in Poso.

A day later, police officers in Toboli village shot dead Imam alias Farid, one of Koros followers.

Jaya pointed out that since then, there has been no terrorist activity in the region of Parigi Moutong district.

He also continues to urge residents, particularly those living on the slopes of the mountain, to immediately report to authorities if they see anyone suspicious.

According to the spokesman, photographs of fugitives, who are members of the Santoso-led paramilitary group in Poso and Parigi Moutong, have been distributed to all areas in the region.

"This is part of our efforts to improve security conditions so that the situation remains stable till after the main event of Sail Tomini on September 19," he remarked.(*)
