Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is targeting to complete the formation of a personal data protection supervisory agency, in keeping with Law Number 27 on Personal Data Protection, in the third quarter of this year.
Director of application control at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Teguh Arifiyadi, said that the draft presidential regulation on the formation of the agency has been completed.
"It (the formation of the agency) is supposed to be completed in the third quarter in accordance with the target," he said at the office of the ministry in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, there are three options for the agency. First, it could be an independent agency that reports directly to the President, he said.
Second, it could be attached to another existing agency. In this case, he explained, it is possible that the existing agency may be given additional tasks involving the supervision of personal data protection.
Third, the agency will be under the auspices of the President but will work and coordinate with the relevant ministries or institutions.
"Those are some of the options and later, the President will decide the best option for the personal data protection supervisory agency," he said.
The Ministry of Communication and Informatics earlier targeted to complete the regulation on the formation of the personal data protection supervisory agency by the second quarter of 2024.
Under the law, the agency has been tasked with creating policies and strategies for personal data protection, as well as enforcing the law on personal data protection.
The Personal Data Protection Law will be fully implemented in October 2024, two years after the law was passed.
