Jakarta (ANTARA) - King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre launches the voluntary medical project for heart surgery and catheterization in the Syrian Arab Republic from April 15 to 22, 2025, through the “Balsam” Association for Health Training and Health Development.

The Balsam Association’s medical team, consisting of 24 doctors, nurses, and technicians, arrived in Damascus on Tuesday to prepare for open-heart surgeries and cardiac catheterization for adults. A group of local doctors from Syria is collaborating with the Balsam Association's medical team.

The project is an extension of the various voluntary medical programs implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre in several countries to provide treatment for individuals and families with limited income.

The voluntary medical project for heart surgery and catheterization, held at the University Hospital in Damascus, aims to perform 95 surgical operations, including 15 open-heart surgeries and 80 cardiac catheterizations, as well as providing medical examinations to offer necessary care and treatment to patients.

In addition to performing surgeries and providing necessary treatment, the project aims to enhance the level of medical services in the Syrian Arab Republic by empowering local medical teams and training 15 healthcare practitioners in operating rooms, intensive care, and healthcare.
