Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized that Indonesia is committed to broadening the scope of its harmonious relations with Singapore.

He conveyed this during a bilateral meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on the sidelines of the 46th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday.

Prabowo highlighted Indonesia's eagerness to foster robust bilateral relations and strengthen strategic partnerships across the Southeast Asian region.

"We have to be nice to all, right? We are friends with all parties," he said.

He added that Indonesia and Singapore have a vast scope for expanding bilateral cooperation in various strategic areas, most notably economy and trade.

"We have vast opportunities to explore potential areas of cooperation, which, in turn, will strengthen bilateral ties. There are many things we can work on together," he pointed out.

Shifting to a broader scale, the President argued that the current global geopolitics and economic trends have prompted ASEAN member states to strengthen their unity and cohesiveness.

"Since we have the ASEAN, we wield strength in quantity and capacity. We also have our own domestic and regional markets. I think these factors represent a greater advantage for us," he opined.

President Prabowo held a meeting with PM Wong shortly after joining a similar high-level discussion with Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, during which he explored opportunities to enhance trade between Indonesia and Laos.

Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, Trade Minister Budi Santoso, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya accompanied Prabowo to both meetings.
