Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto encouraged the Garuda Squad to give its all against Japan in their final World Cup qualifier, scheduled for June 10 in Osaka, Indonesia's national football team's head coach, Patrick Kluivert, stated.
Speaking to reporters after a luncheon at the president’s private residence in Jakarta on Friday, Kluivert assured the public that his team would give its utmost effort for the nation in the upcoming match.
He admitted that the away fixture would be especially challenging, as Japan has already secured direct qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and cemented the top spot in Group C in the third round of the Asian zone qualifiers.
However, the former Barcelona striker emphasized that Japan’s impressive record would not intimidate Indonesia, stressing that his team -- led by captain Jay Idzes -- would go all out in the final match.
Kluivert stated that the squad is set to depart for Osaka on Saturday (June 7) to prepare for the game, which will take place at Suita City Stadium.
The coach remarked that his team had already formulated a game plan, though he declined to share details, simply assuring that his players understand what is required on the field.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, President Prabowo hosted a luncheon for all members of the national team, including players, coaches, and officials.
He was accompanied by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir, among others.
The gathering was held to celebrate the team’s achievement in securing three crucial points with a 1–0 victory over China at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Thursday (June 5) evening.
The win ensured Indonesia's place in the fourth round of the qualifiers, with the team collecting 12 points from nine matches. The team currently sits fourth in Group C, behind Japan, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, China and Bahrain saw their World Cup hopes dashed after losing to their respective opponents on the same evening. Both have collected only six points in Group C with one match left.
