Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called for peace in the Middle East, including between Iran and Israel.

"As mentioned by President Prabowo, it is very important that we have a shared desire to achieve peace, not only between Iran and Israel but also in the entire Middle East," PM Anwar stated while delivering a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday.

PM Anwar expressed relief that a ceasefire had been reached between Israel and Iran after 12 days of mutual air strikes.

He noted that if Israel and Iran, as well as all countries in conflict in the Middle East, achieved peace, the people of Gaza in Palestine could also realize independence as a free and sovereign country.

He strongly condemned Israel's actions, which he said could continue to result in genocide against the people of Gaza, Palestine.

On the same occasion, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed hope that the ceasefire between Israel and Iran could pave the way for lasting peace.

"We continue to encourage all parties to seek a peaceful resolution, and we welcome the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. We hope this process will continue towards peace," he remarked.

He stated that Indonesia and Malaysia are proposing a global collective effort to promote peaceful solutions to various world conflicts.

In addition, Indonesia and Malaysia consistently support the independence of Palestine. Both countries emphasized that a two-state solution is the key to ending the humanitarian crisis and genocide in Gaza.
