Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has asked regional heads to seek the right instruments to increase regional own-source revenue, including by optimizing the role of region-owned enterprises (BUMDs).

After inaugurating the central executive board of the Indonesian District Governments Association (APKASI) in Jakarta on Thursday, he said that to increase regional revenue, regional governments need to ease business licensing and encourage the role of the private sector.

These are deemed necessary because, if the private business ecosystem is operating well, an increase in revenue will be recorded at the regional or even national level.

He also urged regional heads not to indulge in corruption, adding that law enforcement officials are well aware of the various forms of corruption.

To streamline communication, the minister suggested that APKASI form an internal forum involving relevant agencies. At the forum, the district heads could draw up a list of issues that need to be resolved.

Karnavian affirmed that he and officials from his ministry will attend the forum so that issues raised by district heads can be addressed.

“I am ready to help; we will seek win-win solutions for the district and provincial governments,” the minister said.
