Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta Police have arrested 11 Chinese nationals involved in an online scam, in which they posed as police officers from Wuhan City and operated from a rented house in the Cilandak Sub-district.
“We have arrested 11 foreign nationals suspected of committing online scams,” said South Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Nicolas Ary Lilipaly during a press conference on Wednesday (July 30, 2025).
The arrest followed complaints from neighbors who had grown suspicious of the suspects’ activities on July 24. In coordination with the South Jakarta Immigration Office, police officers raided the house and found the 11 suspects impersonating officers from Wuhan City.
“The 11 foreign nationals had stayed at the house for about four to five months since March 2025,” Lilipaly said.
The police identified the suspects by their initials: LYF (45), SK (24), HW (33), CZ (47), YH (32), HY (48), LZ (33), CW (40), ZL (41), JW (36), and SL (37).
Two domestic workers were also found working at the house. “They were prohibited from going up to the second floor or seeing the suspects’ activities,” Lilipaly added.
Meanwhile, South Jakarta Immigration Office Head Bugie Kurniawan stated that the 11 Chinese nationals had abused their stay permits and were suspected of arriving in Indonesia to conduct illegal activities in secret.
During the operation, the suspects posed as police officers during online scams conducted via video calls.
To make the calls more convincing, they affixed police logos and insignia onto a blue wall in the house to serve as a backdrop.
The Immigration Office is coordinating with the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta to verify the suspects’ original documents. “We are waiting for the embassy to provide their travel documents,” Kurniawan said.
The 11 Chinese nationals are suspected of violating multiple Indonesian laws, including the Criminal Code, the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, and the Immigration Law.
