Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's government has pledged to facilitate and protect Jordanian citizens visiting the country, whether as tourists, investors, or business travelers, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said on Wednesday.

Speaking after a meeting with Jordanian Ambassador Sudqi Al Omoush, he highlighted Indonesia's commitment to assisting Jordanians with administrative and population matters, despite their relatively small presence in Indonesia.

"We are ready to assist if they face any difficulties," Mahendra said, noting around 200 Jordanian families currently reside in the country.

The two officials also discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in education, noting that Jordanian students study in Indonesia, while many Indonesians pursue education in Jordan.

"Our relationship has long been close and harmonious. This meeting is expected to further strengthen the friendship between Indonesia and Jordan," Mahendra added.

The talks also touched on the Middle East situation, focusing on the Palestine-Israel conflict.

Ambassador Omoush emphasized Jordan's active role in seeking conflict resolution and expressed gratitude for Indonesia's ongoing support for Palestinians.

Jordan's military recently collaborated with Indonesia's Defense Forces (TNI) by providing a safe zone for humanitarian aid drops to Gaza on August 13.

The meeting included senior officials from Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, underscoring the strategic nature of the partnership.

The attending officials were Special Staff to the Coordinating Minister for Law and Human Rights on Foreign Affairs Ahmad Usmarwi Kaffah, Special Staff on Communication and Media Iqbal Fadil, Deputy for Immigration and Corrections I Nyoman Gede Surya Mataram, Expert Staff on Cooperation and Inter-Institutional Relations Cahyani Suryandari, and Special Staff on Strategic Issues Karjono.
