Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Foreign Ministry confirmed that an Indonesian national was among hundreds of individuals arrested during the US immigration raid at the Hyundai electric vehicle plant in the US state of Georgia.

Judha Nugraha, director for protection of Indonesians at the ministry, said that the Indonesian, identified with initials CHT, was at the Hyundai Metaplant factory site on a business trip during the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid.

"CHT planned for a month-long US business trip and he has the required passport, visa, and company invitation for the trip," Nugraha said in his statement on Sunday.

The Indonesian consulate general in Houston promptly responded to CHT's arrest by communicating with the Folkston ICE Processing Center, where the Indonesian is currently being held.

However, ICE has not provided further details about CHT after his arrest.

The Indonesian consulate has also engaged with his work colleagues and the Hyundai management, he added.

"The Indonesian Consulate General will provide consular assistance for CHT," Nugraha remarked.

A total of 475 people, including a "majority" of individuals from South Korea, were arrested during the raid on Thursday (September 4), according to US authorities on Friday (September 5).

Steven Schrank, the special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for Georgia, told reporters that the arrests followed a "multi-month investigation" into the Hyundai Metaplant at Ellabell, Georgia site.

The operation involved HSI, the FBI, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the US Marshals.

Responding to the arrests, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said on Saturday that he was ready to personally visit Washington to discuss the detention of hundreds of South Korean citizens at the Hyundai battery plant.

"If necessary, I will personally travel to Washington to hold consultations with the US administration," he stated while confirming that his side is considering sending a senior official from the ministry first.
