Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries reported that the number of Indonesian fish processing companies eligible to export to Taiwan has risen to nearly 700.

Ishartini, Head of the ministry’s Marine and Fisheries Quality Control and Monitoring Agency, stated that 693 companies are now eligible, following the recent approval of 26 additional exporters.

“We’ve received confirmation from Taiwan’s competent authority that 26 more companies have been approved to begin exports. This brings the total number of eligible fish processing companies to 693,” she said on Thursday.

She attributed the increase to sustained negotiations between the ministry and Taiwanese authorities, reflecting Indonesia’s strong commitment to ensuring fishery product quality and safety.

“This also signifies growing international recognition of Indonesia’s fishery security and quality assurance systems,” she added.

According to Ishartini, the expanded list of approved exporters is expected to boost Indonesia’s fish export volume to East Asia and diversify the range of commodities sent to Taiwan and the region.

“Our exports to Taiwan currently include 186 products. We hope the addition of 26 new companies will further diversify our offerings and increase export volume,” she remarked.

The ministry noted that Indonesia’s fish exports to Taiwan include live nylon shell and babylon shell, as well as frozen squid, tilapia, Spanish mackerel, squid, muroaji (used as tuna bait), and shark meat.

Marine and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening quality assurance across the entire production line and supply chain, ensuring that all marine and fishery products are safe and of high quality for consumption.
