Karawang, W Java (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s top economic official said Thursday that new international trade agreements are expected to drive exports of local products, including automobiles, as the country pushes to expand market access.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the “3 Million Exports from Indonesia” event at PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia is actively pursuing trade deals to tap into new markets.

"This aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to open access to new markets and increase export quotas for Indonesian goods,” Hartarto told reporters.

He cited Indonesia’s upcoming accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) as an example, saying it could provide access to markets like Mexico.

Hartarto noted that some countries still apply quota restrictions on imports, limiting foreign goods from entering. However, he expressed confidence that trade agreements can help ease those barriers.

"With Free Trade Agreements, CEPA, and CPTPP, those quotas can be opened up," he said.

Hartarto highlighted that PT TMMIN has exported three million vehicles to 100 countries since 1987, attributing the achievement in part to strong domestic supply chain support.

Separately, he noted the conclusion of the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), which was finalized on September 23, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference on September 30 for the launch of the EU Investment Desk, Hartarto said the agreement could potentially raise Indonesia’s exports to the EU by 2.5 times.

The deal is expected to significantly impact bilateral trade, with total trade volume projected to reach $60 billion and Indonesian exports forecast to rise by over 50 percent within three to four years.
