Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Brazil signed eight memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on cooperation in Jakarta on Thursday, witnessed by President Prabowo Subianto and visiting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia initiated the signing of an MoU on energy and mining cooperation with representatives from Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy.

In a press statement, the minister said both countries will partner in the new and renewable energy sector, noting that Brazil has successfully implemented mandatory bioethanol programs.

"The E30 is now mandatory in Brazil, along with E100 in several states. We will establish collaboration in that sector," Lahadalia said.

Other MoUs covered cooperation in science, technology, and innovation; sanitation and phytosanitary standards, including certification; and statistics.

Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund Danantara signed an MoU with JBS — a Brazilian multinational company engaged in meat and food processing.

Additional partnerships were signed between Indonesia's state-owned electricity company PLN and J&F S.A. Brazil; Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and Brazil's Fluxus; and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and ApexBrasil.

President Lula's visit from October 22 to 24 was part of his Southeast Asia tour. His trip to Jakarta was the first since 2008.

Besides witnessing the MoU signing, the two presidents held a tête-à-tête meeting, a bilateral meeting between the two governments, and issued a joint statement.
