Jakarta (ANTARA) - Georgian Ambassador to Indonesia Tornike Nozadze said bilateral ties are “excellent,” highlighting Indonesia’s strategic role in Southeast Asia and growing cooperation across trade, culture and tourism.

“In one word, it’s excellent,” Nozadze told ANTARA News Agency in an interview on Tuesday, referring to relations between the two countries.

He said Indonesia and Georgia have maintained diplomatic ties for more than two decades, steadily strengthening partnership and friendship.

Nozadze described Indonesia as having a strong voice in ASEAN and a valuable partner politically, economically and culturally.

Despite distance, both countries share principles such as respect for sovereignty, commitment to international law and mutually beneficial cooperation.

“So, not only do we see Indonesia as a strong partner today, but we expect even stronger ties ahead,” he said.

He noted that economic relations hold significant untapped potential.

Trade volumes remain modest, but both sides are exploring cooperation in agriculture, tourism, logistics and the digital economy.

Strengthening business-to-business links and improving market awareness are key to unlocking this potential, he added.

Geographical distance has posed challenges to boosting trade, Nozadze said.

However, both countries have stepped up efforts to connect businesses and promote mutual awareness in recent years.

Through joint initiatives, the two nations have increased tourist flows and created more opportunities for companies to expand into each other’s markets.
