Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan (ANTARA) -
Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Fajar Riza Ul Haq called for Central Kalimantan schools to produce successors with intelligence and strong ecological awareness.

“For Central Kalimantan, this role is becoming increasingly strategic. The region is not only a center of growth, but also a guardian of ecosystems that are vital for the sustainability of Indonesia’s environment, and even the world,” he said on Saturday

He noted that the ministry aims to strengthen students’ character by creating school environments that are safe, healthy, and pleasant.

The deputy minister emphasized that schools must become spaces that humanize where children feel safe to grow, learn and pursue their dreams.

Education must not be separated from the reality of the global crises faced today. Climate change, environmental degradation, and resource crises are real challenges that will be inherited by the younger generation.

“The theme ‘our strength, our planet’ emphasizes that the future of the Earth lies in all of our hands,” he said.

The deputy minister stressed that education must take a more strategic role in instilling ecological awareness from an early age, integrating environmental issues into education, developing learning processes, and encouraging concrete actions within school environments.

“Starting from small things, such as managing waste, saving energy, and greening the environment. Every small step taken today determines the quality of life for future generations,” he said.

Earlier, Central Kalimantan Governor Agustiar Sabran emphasized that despite a current budget reduction due to efficiency policies, the provincial government continues to prioritize the education sector.

“We do not want to see any children of Central Kalimantan unable to attend school or pursue higher education. Therefore, education remains the top priority in regional development,” he said.
