Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, underscored the vital role of women in shaping the country’s creative economy and its values.

“Anything creative is inherently beautiful. Women have the eye to see what is good and beautiful, while men ensure that beauty is also functional. That is the essence of the creative economy,” Umar said in an official statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

Speaking at the Srikandi Vol. 2: Women Shaping Creative Ecosystem event in Jakarta on Friday, she noted that women lead about 60 percent of the creative sector, particularly in subsectors such as fashion, crafts, and culinary arts.

Women’s participation is also growing in areas like gaming, where female talent is beginning to achieve international recognition.

Umar emphasized that equality in the creative industry should be measured not only by participation but also by the ability to generate tangible economic impact.

“Creativity must create added value and contribute to economic growth,” she said.

Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan, added that platforms like Srikandi Vol. 2 foster collaboration between government, industry players, and the private sector in supporting women.

She explained that the “Care Economy” program serves as a roadmap for the recognition, reduction, and redistribution of caregiving responsibilities (3R), aimed at promoting gender equality and boosting women’s economic participation.

“With equal opportunities and spaces like this, we can move forward together. This means collaborating with the Ministry of Creative Economy to ensure such spaces exist for women,” Tan stated.

She added that the Care Economy program is essential to build women’s capacity, expand access to work opportunities, and provide training for caregivers.
