Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the 5.61 percent economic growth in the first quarter (Q1) of 2026 has freed Indonesia from the 5 percent growth trap.
This figure, according to him, demonstrates that the Indonesian economy is capable of moving in a better direction amidst the pressure of global uncertainty.
"We can still grow in line with the target of 5.61 percent. And compared to the fourth quarter of last year, growth is faster, from 5.39 percent to 5.61 percent,” Purbaya stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Indonesia's positive economic performance is supported, among others, by reform measures carried out by the government to support the economy.
However, he did not deny that the national economy will still face challenges in the near future, given that global volatility has not yet subsided.
To mitigate these risks, Purbaya is focusing on improving domestic performance by encouraging various engines of economic growth, such as providing support to export-oriented companies to make them more competitive in the global market.
The State Treasurer also stated that he will continue to monitor movements in economic activity and is ready to intervene to maintain growth.
"I will continue to monitor the data every day. The government is not afraid or hesitant to invest to maintain a faster economic pace," he said.
Earlier, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 5.61 percent (yoy) economic growth in Q1 of 2026, with household consumption becoming the largest contributor.
In terms of value, the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in Q1 of 2026 was recorded at Rp3,447.7 trillion (US$197.9 million) at constant prices and Rp6,187.2 trillion (US$355 million) at current prices.
The five main contributing industries in the GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026 are manufacturing (19.07 percent), trade (13.28 percent), agriculture (12.67 percent), construction (9.81 percent), and mining (8.69 percent), according to BPS data.
