Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The Mount Rinjani National Park Office in West Nusa Tenggara has urged tourists and hikers to prepare for colder temperatures as dry season conditions increase risks during mountain activities.

“Tourists and hikers need to prepare carefully because current weather conditions feel colder,” Mount Rinjani National Park Office Head Budy Kurniawan said in a statement on Wednesday.

He warned visitors not to be misled by sunny daytime conditions because temperatures can drop sharply after sunset.

“Safe hiking begins with proper preparation. Let's enjoy the beauty of Rinjani while continuing to prioritize safety,” he said.

Kurniawan said data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) showed colder night and early morning temperatures indicate West Nusa Tenggara has entered the dry season.

During the dry season, air becomes drier, causing temperatures at night and in the morning to fall significantly, particularly in mountainous areas.

“Cold weather in the mountains can increase the risk of hypothermia, especially while resting or staying in exposed and windy areas,” he said.

Tourists planning to hike are advised to bring warm clothing and jackets and use sleeping bags suitable for mountain conditions.

Hikers are also encouraged to maintain physical fitness, stay hydrated, and ensure all hiking equipment is complete and functioning properly.

He said the office would continue increasing public outreach efforts to tourists and stakeholders to improve safety and security.
