Pangkalan Bun (ANTARA News) - The body count of the victims of AirAsia Flight QZ8501 has reached 40, including the one being kept in the morgue at Sultan Imanuddin Hospital here, Central Kalimantan, a police officer stated here on Thursday.
"We are waiting for the National Search and Rescue Agencys (Basarnas) decision regarding the transportation of the 40th body. We ourselves have been ready to transport it to Surabaya for a postmortem examination," Senior Commissioner Hariyanto stated.
According to Hariyanto, the coordinator of the polices Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team, a male body was pulled out from the waters of Karimata Strait near Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan Province, on Wednesday.
The AirAsia aircraft crashed with 162 people on board in its flight from Surabaya, East Java, to Singapore on December 28, 2014, and its tail was found on Wednesday.
The tail was recovered by several Indonesian navy divers from the bottom of the Java Sea.
