Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government has strongly denounced the bomb attack on the central Istanbul district of Vezneciler, which left 11 people dead on Tuesday morning, the Foreign Ministry has said.

"The government and the people of Indonesia offer deep sympathy and condolences to the people and the government of Turkey, particularly the relatives of the victims," the ministry stated in a press statement released on Tuesday.

The bomb attack, which targeted a police bus, reportedly killed 11 people, of whom seven were officers and four civilians.

Vezneciler is a busy district and a tourist destination in Turkey.

The ministry revealed that one Indonesian student sustained a minor injury after the ceiling of the classroom where he was studying fell on him due to the bomb blast.

The Indonesian citizen is a student of physics department at the Istanbul University. The Indonesian consulate general in Istanbul has contacted the student and he has returned to his dormitory.

The consulate general will continue to coordinate with the local authorities and has called on the Indonesian citizens in Turkey not to visit busy places which may become target of bomb attacks.

It also asked Indonesian citizens planning to travel to the area to stay abreast of the latest developments.(*)
