Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) - The administration of Banda Aceh, Aceh province will build a digital museum that will collect, showcase and preserve the history of the city.

"The museum will preserve the historical journey of Banda Aceh, which is now more than eight centuries old," Aceh Mayor Illiza Saaduddin Djamal said here on Tuesday.

According to the mayor, the digital museum is important for Banda Aceh as it is an old city and therefore, has many valuable and precious histories to tell the world.

In addition, she stated, the museum will function as an educational center to learn about the history of Banda Aceh.

"We will seek help and support from the British, the Dutch and the Turkish governments as they have many historical remains related to Banda Aceh," Illiza added.

Besides building a digital museum, the city administration also takes care of the historical remains, among others, those left by the Sultanate of Aceh and the colonial Dutch rulers.

"Such historical legacy as a house in which Snouck Hurgronje and General Kohler used to live is invaluable," she stressed.

Another historical remain is the Old Town of Peunayong that will be renovated and preserved as a cultural heritage.

"These historical buildings are not allowed to be tweaked with. Once they have been designated as historical items, people should not carry out any change therein. We are doing this to save the evidence of our historical past," the mayor commented.(*)
