Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Dubai Port will continue with its investment plan in Indonesia, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said here on Friday.

"They are investing in Teluk Lamong in East Java and in Tanjung Api-api, South Sumatra," he said after meeting with President Joko Widodo.

The minister pointed out that the continuation of Dubai Ports investment plan was one of the four issues he discussed with the president.

"We discussed ways to ensure a fast railway service, the issue of gas price, the Patimbang port development project in West Java and the Dubai Port investment," he noted.

He informed that the representatives of Dubai Port met him on Friday to discuss their investment plan for the development of a pier and a terminal at two locations.

"The president ordered that these plans be facilitated as they bring a billion US dollars for the investment projects. They are willing to invest on the condition that the process would be clinched fast," he disclosed.

Luhut noted that the Dubai Port has already started making investment. "They had already started but had stopped. I have now urged them to expedite it. The president has also concurred. On Monday, they will come to my office and we will discuss plans to expedite the projects," he assured.

Regarding the rallies planned in the capital over the next few days, the former chief security minister made it clear that a country as big as Indonesia cannot be steered like that.

"Everything is regulated by rules. Do not think the government cannot act firmly. It is not impossible for the government to legally process those who break the rules," he warned.

He reiterated that the government would act firmly against those violating the law. "Just wait if they think they are above the law. Our President is a man of courage because he is clean. So do not think you can do anything or create a mess in the country."

He reminded that the current global economic condition was not favorable and creating trouble would amount to harming the country.

"If they create chaos, it will akin to harming Indonesia," he stressed.

Hundreds of thousands of Muslims carried out a demonstration in the capital city on November 4 to demand legal action against Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama for allegedly committing blasphemy.

That day, the protest rally passed off peacefully till the deadline of 6pm but then turned violent with a clash taking place between security forces and some demonstrators.

It was reported they would again organize a similar demonstration on December 2 even though Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has been named a suspect.(*)
