We will tightly supervise the borders round the clock."Pontianak (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) will install one more radar in Singkawang, West Kalimantan province, to strengthen state defense in border areas, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto said.
"One of the 12 radars we will procure will be installed in Singkawang," he said while paying a working visit to the Supadio Airbase in Pontianak on Friday (March 17).
He further said TNI AU will procure 12 more radars this year. It currently has 20 radars across the country.
In addition, the Air Force also plans to F-5 fighter jets, which have almost stopped operating in the past one year.
In its work plan for 2015-2019, TNI AU plans to increase the number its radars and support combat fleet by replacing F-5 fighter jets and buying helicopters for the purpose of transportation and search and rescue (SAR).
In his first working visit to West Kalimantan, particularly the Supadio Airbase Command Station, Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto also checked the airbases military armament system.
He said TNI AU will always tighten security in the countrys borders to prevent any attempt to disrupt national integrity.
"We will tightly supervise the borders round the clock. To ensure that activity runs effectively, we will reactivate radars in the border areas and the waters of the Indonesian archipelago to monitor the movement of foreign planes, which intentionally trespass the Indonesian territory," he added.
