Twenty one fire trucks and some 100 personnel were deployed to extinguish the fire, Hasanuddin, a firefighter of the Karet firebrigade unit, said.
"The firefighters are still trying to put out the fire. We still do not know how many homes are gutted by the fire, and what the cause of the blaze," he said.
There were no reports of casualties as the fire was still burning in the morning.
