Minister launches pornography-free village in E Kalimantan

Berau, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Women`s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Yohana Susana Yembise launched a pornography-free village in Maluang Hamlet, Berau District, East Kalimantan, here on Tuesday.

"Congratulate to Maluang Hamlet. This is the first village I proclaim to be a pornography-free village," the minister said in a pornography-free announcement ceremony in Maluang Village, Berau District, East Kalimantan, on Tuesday.

She expressed hope that Maulang would serve as model of village which is free from pornography for other villages in Berau, in particular and East Kalimantan in general.

"We hope that with appreciations it has received this village would would become a friendly village for children in Indonesia," she added.

The minister stressed that children should be safeguard from the negative impact of pornography as it is dangerous to their personality.

"We have to safeguard them because our future generation," she added.

On the occasion, the villagers, who are composed of local and religious leaders as well as local youth, had a joint declaration to free the village from pornography.

The declaration was signed by Minister Yembise and Berau District Head Agus Tantomo.
