Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Transport Ministry has passed instruction to Indonesian airlines to check and examine the airworthiness of Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft they have.

The order followed Monday`s air disaster when Boeing 737-8Max of Lion Air plunged into the sea off northern coast of Java with 189 people on board all feared dead.

The Directorate General of Air Worthiness and Aircraft Operation of the Transport Ministry passed the instruction to two Indonesian airlines using Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft PT Lion Air and the nation flag carrier Garuda Indonesia.

Lion Air has 8 units of Boeing 737-8 Max and garuda has one.

Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said here on Wednesday the results of the examination would be handed over to the National Committee for the Safety of Air Transport (KNKT).

"We will make conclusion of the clarification and we will hand it over to KNKT for the agency to determine the causes of the incident involving Lion Air JT 610," the Minister said.

The result of the examinations have to be reported immediately to the Directorate General of Air Worthiness and Aircraft Operation for evaluation.
