Sukabumi, W Java (ANTARA News) - Eight bodies were found in Garehong Kampong, Cimapag Hamlet, Sukabumi District, West Java Province, which was hit by a landslide on Monday afternoon.

Two bodies were found on Monday evening and six on Tuesday , Commander of the 061 military resort/Suryakencana Colonel M Hasan said here, Tuesday.

The landslide buried some 30 homes in Cimapag Hamlet, Sinarresmi Village, Cisolok Sub-district.

A total of 107 villagers were affected in the natural disaster. Eight were found dead, three seriously injured, two slightly wounded, 63 displaced, and the rest remained missing.

Meanwhile, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), noted in a statement on early Tuesday that the rescue operations continued in search for 41 missing people in Garehong.

"The landslide occurred on Monday (Dec 31) at 5:30 p.m. local time. The SAR team continues to search for its victims," Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), noted in a statement here, Tuesday.

The rescue operations, however, were hindered by rain, power outage, and lack of heavy equipment on Monday evening.

Communication network in the area was shut down, so communication with the rescue team on the field was done via the handy walkie-talkie, he stated.

The joint SAR team comprised local officers, volunteers, as well as police and military personnel.

The Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) deployed 350 personnel to help the rescue operations.
