Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Research, Technology, and Higher Education Minister Mohammad Nasir and Chinese Science and Technology Minister Wang Zhigang inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on research cooperation for high-speed train technology development.

The MoU aimed at building a stage for cooperation to boost human resource capacity and knowledge of high-speed train technology.

The MoU-signing event was held as part of a series of activities of the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, Thursday (Apr 25), noted a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

The cooperation encompasses research and development cooperation; training, workshops, and seminars; exchange of researchers and academic staff; technology transfer; and enhancing cooperation between higher education institutions and the private sector.

During the MoU-signing event, both ministers revered the cooperation in the past five years.

Nasir and Zhigang concurred on working towards steadily intensifying collaboration in the areas of science, technology, and innovation and driving the program to boost the capacity of human resources between both nations, particularly members of the younger generation.

The 2015-2019 period bore witness to nine cooperation agreements between the Indonesian Research, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry and the Chinese Science and Technology Ministry.

In 2015, the two ministries were on the same page with regard to setting up a joint laboratory, a center of technology transfer, and a scientist exchange program.

In 2016, both ministries reached a common consensus on setting up a joint laboratory for biotechnology and for a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor.

In 2017, the duo ministries decided on preparing a joint action plan for science, technology, and innovation and setting up a joint research center for port construction and disaster mitigation, as well as cooperation pertaining to techno park.
