We have launched three excellent UI research programs, namely nanotechnology, genome and computer information technology
Depok (ANTARA) - Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir said that a social and political research center at the University of Indonesia (UI) would strengthen the position of the campus among the international community.

"With the existence of a social and political research center, UI, which is ranked 292nd at the international level, could rise to 200 in the near future," Nasir said in Depok, West Java, Thursday.

After inaugurating the building of the Social and Political Research Center of the University of Indonesia's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the National Education Day commemoration, Nasir said UI had readied infrastructure that could be used for the social and political research center.

The building is a donation from the founder of the Lippo Group, Mochtar Riady, and has an area of 5,184 square meters and was built on an area of 2,300 square meters.

However, Nasir emphasized the historical aspects of the building needed to be maintained.

"With this building, I hope that the interest of the younger generation to carry out social and political research will also increase. Also, it is hoped that superior research will emerge here," he added. Riady said that along with globalization, political science has also advanced. Therefore, UI must continue to have leading facilities to develop its superior research program.

Mochtar attributed the success he achieved today to education.

"We have launched three excellent UI research programs, namely nanotechnology, genome and computer information technology," Mochtar said, adding that with the contribution of the entire community to the field of education, Indonesia could continue to develop and advance.

The faculty is one of the favorite faculties at UI. The interest of young people to study at the faculty is quite high, as seen from the enthusiasm of new students who keep increasing every year.
