Kupang (ANTARA) - Rotiklot Dam in Fatuketi village, Kakuluk Mesak Subdistrict, Belu district, East Nusa Tenggara province is expected be a new tourist site for people in the district and its surrounding areas.

"Currently the construction of the Rotiklot Dam has been completed. In the future we believe that it will become a new tourist destination for the people here," the Head of the Work Unit of the River II Center, Fery Moun Hepy, told Antara here Sunday.

The Rotiklot Dam is one of seven dams which is one of the programs of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) to improve food security in the province.

Fery explained that the location of the very strategic Rotiklot Dam should be utilized by the district administration of Belu to develop the area.

"When viewed from a height, it is very beautiful. Now there are a number of spots that can be used to watch this dam from a height," he said.

To make this location a tourist area, he continued, the district administration could coordinate with the the center to design how the area was organized.

He said the process of controlling dams remained within the authority of the center, but still there was a special unit that supervised the dam so it would not be damaged.

The dam will be inaugurated by President Jokowi on Monday (May 20). Previously in January 2018, President Jokowi had also inaugurated the Raknamo Dam in Kupang district, East Nusa Tenggara.
