Luwuk, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Floods hit four sub-districts in Banggai District, Central Sulawesi Province, on Thursday, claiming one life, submerging hundreds of homes, and forcing several people to take refuge on higher ground.

A villager was found dead after being swept away by the flash flood in Moilong Sub-district.

The Banggai District Head had instructed the local authorities to deploy rescue personnel and relief aid to the sub-districts, Suprapto, a local legislator, said.

Flood waters reaching a height of up to one meter inundated five villages in Moilong, namely Argakencana, Mulyoharjo, Sidomakmur, and Karanganyar, among others.

In Toili Sub-district, the flood-affected villages included Sindangbaru, Singkoyo, Cendanapura, Sidomukti, Jaya Kencana, Sentralsari and Sentral Timur.

In the sub-district of West Toili, floods hit Kamiwangi, Makapa, Mekarsari, and Pasir Lamba villages.

Several homes were damaged and roads were cut off due to the flooding.
