Insha Allah (God willing) [the party's leader will attend the presidential inauguration]
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief Patron of the opposition-turned-ally Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto was scheduled to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President-elect Ma'ruf Amin at the parliament building in Jakarta on Sunday, the spokesman stated.

"Insha Allah (God willing) [the party's leader will attend the presidential inauguration]," Prabowo Subianto's Spokesperson Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak stated in Jakarta, late Saturday.

On a separate occasion, Subianto, a former rival of President Jokowi in this year's presidential race, said that his attendance was aimed to respect the Indonesia's constitution and political system.

"As an obedient citizen of Indonesia, I am obliged to attend the inauguration," Subianto remarked after receiving a visit of the People's Consultative Assembly's leaders to his private residence in Jakarta on Oct 11.

During his meeting with nine leaders of the People's Consultative Assembly, Subianto noted that the purpose of all debates and arguments among political parties must be directed for the well-being of the people and the state.

Therefore, Subianto stated that all political parties in the country must remain united despite of the differences.

For years, Subianto and his Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party have actively been exercising effective checks and balances in the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla administration.

However, Subianto's political stance shifted after his meeting with President Jokowi at the Merdeka Palace on Oct 11. During the meeting, Subianto supported the president's plan to move the capital city from Jakarta to East Kalimantan.

After an-hour meeting, Subianto and Jokowi also took a self-picture (selfie) together along with the reporters and photo-journalists.

In the aftermath of the General Elections Commission's (KPU's) official declaration that Jokowi and Ma'ruf Amin were Indonesia's president-elect and vice president-elect on June 30, 2019, Subianto had also met with the leaders of several Jokowi-Amin camp's coalition parties, such as PDIP, Nasdem, and PKB.
