Residents tipped off the police, who conducted a raid and arrested the 24-year-old drug dealer at his home in Maleber Village, Karangtengah Subdistrict, Cianjur District, West Java
Cianjur, W Java (ANTARA) - The anti-drug unit of the Cianjur Police in West Java Province has confiscated 1.5 kilograms (kg) of marijuana, and nabbed the alleged owner, Ujang Yusuf, 24, a local police officer revealed here Tuesday. Residents tipped off the police, who conducted a raid and arrested the 24-year-old drug dealer at his home in Maleber Village, Karangtengah Subdistrict, Cianjur District, West Java, Chief of the Cianjur Police's Narcotics Division Adjunct Coms Ade Hermawan Mulyana said.

The anti-drug squad personnel found the marijuana packed in two sealed bags, he said.

The police investigators did not just seize the drugs but also confiscated several other goods, including a scale and a cellular phone.

"We are still investigating this case to uncover the big marijuana suppliers," he added.

Marijuana is popular among drug dealers in Indonesia. The South Jakarta Metropolitan Police, for instance, recently thwarted attempts by two drug dealers to trade 24kg of dried marijuana around Jakarta and its outskirts.

The suspects, only identified by their initials DCW and PMS, were nabbed in Cibinong and Depok, West Java Province, respectively, South Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Sen. Coms. Bastoni Purnama, revealed on November 4.

DCW was arrested at his home in Cibinong city, Bogor District, along with five kg of dried marijuana and 0.55 grams of crystal methamphetamine, while PMS was apprehended at his home in Cilodong, Depok city, he said.

The investigators seized 19kg of dried marijuana, packed in two cardboards, from PMS' house, he said.

Both DCW and PMS told investigators that they would be paid Rp150,000 per kg of marijuana they sold.

Indonesia remains under grave threat from drug dealers, as several individuals from its working-age population have been engulfed in a vicious circle.

According to the National Narcotics Agency's (BNN's) report, some 50 Indonesians die of drug use daily. But, their deaths have failed to deter other drug users in the country from consuming these banned substances. (INE)
