Jakarta (ANTARA) - J. B. Sumarlin, Indonesia's former finance minister for the 1988-1993 term, breathed his last at the age of 87 at Carolus Hospital here on Thursday afternoon.

"Prof. Dr J. B. Sumarlin -- our father, grandparent, and brother -- passed away to the house of Father in heaven on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 2:15 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Standard Time)," Sumarlin's family noted in a statement here on Thursday.

His remains will be laid to rest at the funeral home MRCC Siloam Semanggi, 36th floor, starting at 6 p.m. WIB.

The funeral procession will be held at the San Diego Hills cemetery on Monday (Feb 10).

Born in Blitar, East Java Province, on December 7, 1932, Sumarlin had held several important government positions during the New Order era, such as chairman of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) during the 1993-1998 period and head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) from 1983 to 1988.

The alumni of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Indonesia (UI) had also served as the state apparatus control minister for the 1973-1983 period and head of the BP Batam Authority Agency. (INE).
