Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - Four people aboard MV Lintas Laut 3 that sank in the waters of Mapur Island in the Indonesian province of Riau Islands on Wednesday (Feb 11) are yet missing.

The motor vessel, with a capacity of six gross tonnage, lost contact in the northern waters of Bintan Island en route from Jembatan Dua Barelang in Batam to the waters of Mapur Island in Bitan District, Chief of the Operational Section of the Search and Rescue (SAR) Office in Tanjungpinang, Eko Supriyanto, stated on Thursday (Feb 12).

"We received information on the sinking of the ship from the MPA (Maritime and Port Authority of) Singapore and a ship agent named Rini," he remarked.

Three people survived the incident that occurred at around 1 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

The four missing people are the skipper, identified as Junaidi (30), and three crew members identified as Avis (25), Miran (24), and Hamdan (35).

Shortly after receiving the information, the SAR office dispatched a ship KN SAR Purworejo 101 to the Batu Ampar waters in Batam to help the three people, who had survived the accident.

The three people, identified as Isak Doli (30), Jafersus Wetang (26), and Danil (35), are also crew members of the ill-fated motor vessel.

"The three have been handed over to the ship agent," Supriyanto remarked.

The SAR office is cooperating with MPA Singapore to search for the four missing crew.
