Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 52 thousand tons of garlic imported from China arrived in Indonesia in stages on Thursday to fulfill the domestic requirement, National Police’s Food Task Force Head, Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga, stated.

"As of now, 52 thousand tons of garlic from China have arrived," Brigadier General Daniel remarked on Thursday.

The additional stock of imported garlic is estimated to lower the market price of garlic currently standing at some Rp50 thousand per kilogram.

The National Police's Food Task Force also continues to monitor and oversee the distribution of staples to the market and to consumers to ensure food availability and no supply deficit.

The stock of garlic in the market is guaranteed to suffice until the upcoming Ramadan fasting month and Idul Fitri.

National Police Chief General Idham Azis has also issued the National Police Chief Telegram Letter Number: ST / 1148 / IV / OPS.2. / 2020 dated April 9, 2020, pertaining to instructions to his staff to ensure the distribution of staple food items and other community requirements.

Indonesia has also imported thousands of tons of onions, or locally called bombay onions, from several countries to meet the domestic requirements. So far, 6,800 tons of imported onions have arrived.  Related news: Government ensures adequate food stocks until next 3-4 months
