Jakarta (ANTARA) - Residents of Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta, are becoming more aware of the importance of participating in vaccination programs to expedite herd immunity against COVID-19, West Jakarta Deputy Mayor Uus Kuswanto has said.

"I appreciate my residents who came (to get vaccinated) today. This proves that people have started to become more aware of the importance of vaccinations," Kuswanto remarked after reviewing a mass vaccination event organized by the Ciputra Group in the Citra Garden City area, West Jakarta, on Monday.

Ciputra, the organizer of the mass vaccination program, is targeting to inoculate two thousand people per day. Of the targeted daily recipients, 1,500 will be administered the first vaccine dose while 500 will be given the second dose of the vaccine, he said.

Ciputra's management is planning to hold the mass vaccination program until August 17, 2021 and inoculate a total of 20 thousand people, Kuswanto said.

The company has launched the program to support the government's efforts to accelerate vaccinations, he added.

Kuswanto said his administration has collaborated with a number of groups, including businesses, to hold mass vaccinations.

"We are involving all elements of the society to work together to implement the vaccine programs," he stated.

Meanwhile, associate director of PT Ciputra Residence, Yusanto Harijatno, said the company has involved several health workers from hospitals in the program.

Ciputra's efforts would hopefully help reduce the spread of COVID-19 so that residents could return to normal activities post vaccination, he said.

"With the vaccination, we can reduce the number of people infected by the virus so that people can return to their normal lives. That is our wish," he remarked.
