Once again. I urged producers to submit their planning document
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 31 producers have until now submitted a 2020-2029 garbage reduction road map planning document to the Environment and Forestry Ministry’s Director General of Waste, Toxic and Hazardous Waste Management, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, stated.

During a discussion held at Indonesia's Pavilion for the COP-26 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Ratnawati noted that the responsibility to reduce garbage did not solely fall on the shoulders of the product users but also the producers.

"The primary purpose of the waste reduction road map in Environment and Forestry Ministerial Regulation No. 75 of 2019 is to reduce garbage that came from product, product packaging, and containers," she affirmed here on Thursday.

This is also done to build a sustainable business by applying the concepts of a circular economy as well as changing consumer behavior, she noted.

Moreover, the road map stipulates the efforts to withdraw packaging from producers to reduce garbage and to encourage recycling.

According to Ratnawati, 24 of the road map planning documents came from producers in the manufacturing industry, while seven of them came from the retail sector.

On the occasion, she lauded the efforts of these producers to reduce garbage and encourage other enterprises to take a cue from these 31 producers.

She highlighted that the application of the road map did not mean producers should immediately change their packaging. There is time to take the garbage reduction steps.

"Once again. I urge producers to submit their planning document," Ratnawati stated.

The Environment and Forestry Ministerial Regulation No. 75 of 2019 aims to reduce garbage by producers by 30 percent as compared to the amount of garbage heap in 2029.

The producers covered in the regulation are defined as businesses working in the field of manufacturing, food and beverages service, and retail.
