As long (as the activity) is positive, I think it is not a problem at all. Do not make a fuss. Positive things must be supported and encouraged, as long as no rule is violated. It is a creative work
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Suburban youth socializing and showcasing their fashion styles in Dukuh Atas, the transit point of Dukuh Atas MRT and Sudirman railway station, Central Jakarta, is creativity that should be encouraged, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated.

The suburban youth, popularly known to have originated from Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, Depok regions, abbreviated as SCBD, spontaneously organized a fashion show called "Citayam Fashion Week" in Dukuh Atas, which drew public interest.

"As long (as the activity) is positive, I think it is not a problem at all. Do not make a fuss. Positive things must be supported and encouraged, as long as no rule is violated. It is a creative work," the president stated after attending the National Children's Day commemoration at the Bogor Botanical Gardens, West Java, on Saturday.

He believes there is no reason to restrict the youth movement as long as rules are not flouted.

Jokowi instead questioned parties that called the youth activities to be restricted.

"Why (the activity) must be restricted? As long as no rule is violated, (it is okay). That is the principle," the president remarked.

Earlier, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said he is committed to providing a space for suburban youth socializing in Dukuh Atas.

The minister said that with its uniqueness and popularity, the "Citayam Fashion Week" can be a medium to promote fashion trends and tourism. He also expressed optimism that suburban youth would be influencers that help to promote products of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Also positively responding to the suburban youth movement, Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said he was glad that youth from suburban regions were gathering and socializing at Dukuh Atas.

The mingling of residents in the Dukuh Atas region demonstrates that Jakarta is an attractive tourist destination for the residents of Jakarta's buffer regions of Bogor, Tangerang, Depok, and Bekasi, the deputy governor stated.
